Frequently Asked Questions
Is counselling confidential?
Yes. What you share in counselling stays private. The only times confidentiality may need to be broken are if there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or others, or if required by law. If this ever happens, we talk it through together, and you are supported every step of the way.
What age groups do you work with?
We support teens (12+) and adults and also work with children of all ages when they are included in family therapy.
Are you accredited by a professional organization?
All our counsellors hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and are licensed to practise counselling. Our CCC-designated counsellors are registered with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).
How do I know if counselling could help me?
Counselling can be helpful for anyone who wants a safe, supportive space to talk openly. A counsellor can help you explore your thoughts and feelings, ask challenging questions in a gentle way, and see situations from new perspectives supporting you as you work toward clarity, growth, and balance.
How much counselling might be right for me?
The length of counselling varies for each person. Some clients notice relief from a specific concern after just one session. Others may choose to continue exploring additional areas of mental health or emotional well-being. Together, you and your counsellor will decide on the best approach, therapy type, and duration to meet your unique needs and goals.
How much does counselling cost?
At Clear Currents, our team consists of Registered Clinical Counsellors. Session fees are determined during intake, taking into account your practitioner, insurance coverage, and any available sliding scale options.
Does my insurance cover counselling sessions?
Most insurance plans include coverage for counselling. While we do not offer direct billing, we provide receipts that you can submit to your insurance provider, who typically reimburses you according to your policy.
How long are counselling sessions?
Most individual sessions last 50 – 60 minutes. If you feel a longer session would be helpful, this can be discussed. EMDR sessions typically range from 60 – 90 minutes.
